Aila is an Environmental Scientist with experience in the waste water treatment and the wider environmental consulting industry over the past 15 years.
In 2007, she founded VESI Environmental Ltd. which has been instrumental in the development of the Integrated Constructed Wetland Concept including their design, construction and management in Ireland.
Aila has been involved in the application of ICW systems for a range of uses, including sites managing landfill leachate, mine drainage, municipal wastewater and industrial effluents.
Rory is a graduate of University College Dublin, Ireland and Yale University, USA. He is a forester, wildlife biologist and landscape ecologist, and formally a public servant
He has been involved in a diversity of biological and engineering research over a career of more than four decades ranging from conservation genetics, mammology and restoration ecology. He pioneered the ‘Integrated Constructed Wetland’ (ICW) concept.
This concept is increasingly being seen internationally as a social, economic and environmental coherent way to efficaciously treat a wide range of polluted water sources from urban and rural environments. He initiated the Anne Valley Project in Co. Waterford which focuses on enhancing community and landowner engagement with nature.
He joined VESI as senior scientist in 2013.
Caolan is a zoologist and environmental engineer. He is a graduate of University College Dublin and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
His research topic was the development of experimental ‘meso-scale’ platforms, exploring the bio-geo-chemical functional capacities of Integrated Constructed Wetland (ICW) systems. His meso-scale design provides a high level of statistical coherency with regard to understanding and managing specific functional aspects of ICW-type wetlands.
His zoological expertise serves to provide insight into biodiversity and water quality studies of large-scale ICW systems typically used in the food processing industry and for municipal & rural waste water.
He has 14 years of direct experience in the construction, planting and establishment, design and monitoring of ICW systems and related infrastructures.
